Blue Hill woman to walk marathon

first_imgBOSTON — Blue Hill resident Marybeth Judy will walk in the upcoming Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk on Sunday, Sept. 27.She will walk the 26.2-mile course among an expected turnout of 8,500 walkers.The Jimmy Fund Walk is the nation’s largest single-day fundraiser. This year’s goal is to raise more than $8.2 million for the Jimmy Fund for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.“The Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai unites thousands of people young and old — from adults, children, parents, neighbors, colleagues, cancer patients, to cancer survivors — who share a unified goal to cure cancer,” said Zack Blackburn, assistant vice president of the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. “Their dedication and commitment enables Dana-Farber to make progress on cancer care and research.”This is placeholder textThis is placeholder textThe event has raised more than $100 million in its 27-year history.Since 1989, the Boston Athletic Association has supported the walk, and since 2002, Hyundai has been the presenting sponsor.Walkers can choose from four routes along the historic course: Hopkinton 26.2-mile, rolling start: 5:30 to 7:30 a.m.; Wellesley 13.1-mile, rolling start: 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.; Boston College five-mile, rolling start: 10 a.m. to noon; Dana-Farber Cancer Institute three-mile, official start: 1:45 p.m., which will include patients and their families.Those unable to participate on event day can become “Virtual Walkers” and fundraise for the event online. The walk finishes at Copley Square in Boston, where walkers can celebrate and enjoy complimentary food, beverages, a speaking program and live entertainment.All walkers must raise a minimum of $300, and walkers 12 years and younger have a fundraising minimum of $100.Pacesetters are fundraisers who raise $1,500 or more.To register for the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk, to support a walker or to volunteer, visit JimmyFundWalk.org or call (866) 531-9255.
