This compact holiday home in Lorne, Victoria was designed for a recently retired couple and their adult family. The house negotiates a very steep site, planning height restrictions, and a modest budget. The clients were keen to capture the stunning coastal views, while retaining as much of the existing native vegetation as possible.Save this picture!SectionThe house was conceived to be a sculptured geometric  form,  articulated through window placement and refined, yet honest detailing.  It was important for the dwelling to be flexible, and able to accommodate larger groups when required.  The plan is efficient, but ample, and feels generous through its volumetric spaces.Save this picture!© Derek SwalwellAn ‘upside down’ living arrangement prioritises communal spaces – affording them the best coastal views. And due to the steep nature of the land, the upper floor can be accessed directly from the rear of the site. Save this picture!© Derek SwalwellProject gallerySee allShow lessSee Inside Le Corbusier’s Mind with These 5 PaintingsArchitecture News/ EMBTUnbuilt Project Share Architects: Will Harkness Architecture Area Area of this architecture project Lorne Hill House / Will Harkness Architecture Australia Lorne Hill House / Will Harkness ArchitectureSave this projectSaveLorne Hill House / Will Harkness Architecture CopyHouses•Lorne, Australia ShareFacebookTwitterPinterestWhatsappMailOrhttps://www.archdaily.com/612459/lorne-hill-house-will-harkness-architecture Clipboardcenter_img “COPY” “COPY” ShareFacebookTwitterPinterestWhatsappMailOrhttps://www.archdaily.com/612459/lorne-hill-house-will-harkness-architecture Clipboard Area:  184 m² Area:  184 m² Photographs Houses CopyAbout this officeWill Harkness ArchitectureOfficeFollowProductWood#TagsProjectsBuilt ProjectsSelected ProjectsResidential ArchitectureHousesLorneHousesAustraliaPublished on March 25, 2015Cite: “Lorne Hill House / Will Harkness Architecture” 25 Mar 2015.
