He’s got an awesome look. His racially charged origin story is brimming with potential. And he’s one of the most fun characters to play in Injustice 2. We’re hoping that his secondary villain role in this December’s Aquaman feature film will finally allow the character (played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) to break out.In the meantime, why not collect some hot Black Manta merch to prove that you were down before he was cool. And if you want to make the most waves, our pick is this radically retro Black Manta action figure from Mattel. If nothing else, DC loves to celebrate the illustrious long legacy of its comic book universe. And so for its 75th anniversary a few years back it commissioned a series of 8-inch action figures showcasing characters in classic outfits from throughout the decades. The modest cloth materials add to the nostalgic vibe. This particular Black Manta incarnation comes from his 1970s look where he was on the Super Friends cartoon. As a member of the Legion of Doom out in the swamp, Manta wore this stylish all-black number to complement his diving pack and iconic (if not quite as large) red-eyed bug helmet. Modern versions of Manta are more armored, bulky, and almost robotic. But this Black Manta looks like the chief henchman in a James Bond movie and that’s awesome in its own right. You can get retro action figures of other classic DC characters like Lex Luthor, Sinestro, and even Darkseid. But we’re sure you’ll agree that highlighting Black Manta here was the only acceptable choice. So all you DC bros out there snuggle up with this while you wait for Jason Momoa to whisk you away for pounding beers under the sea.Let us know what you like about Geek by taking our survey.last_img read more
