Acclaimed South African group performing at Cultural Centre

Memeza Africa will be taking to the stage at the North Peace Cultural Centre.The 16 member group whose name means “shout Africa” combines traditional music and dance within its performances.- Advertisement -The group has performed for the Nelson Mandela Farewell, Oprah and Friends New Year’s Celebration and the FIFA Confederation Cup.The group has a Canadian connection having been co-founded by musician Holly Wright, along with Jimmy Mulovhedzi who was born in Soweto, South Africa from where the group originates.The group has been lauded for their “spellbinding” performances as well as for its ability to provide the potential for income for its members. Its members are all from Soweto, a previously marginalized community with an extremely high unemployment rate.In addition to the performance, the Fort St. John Pan African and Caribbean Society will provide traditional foods before the show.Advertisementlast_img read more
